The fine print, in plain language where we can manage it

Terms of Service

We've tried to write this the way we'd want it written for our own parents — clear about what we're promising, and just as clear about what we're not.

Draft — pending legal review. This is a working draft prepared ahead of formal legal review (see the Legal Review Package in the Lisa product documentation) and should not be treated as final or legally binding until that review is complete.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account, subscribing to, or otherwise using Lisa (the "Service"), provided by The Average Tech Company LLC ("we," "us," "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you're setting up Lisa on behalf of a parent or family member, you agree to these terms both for yourself as the account holder and on behalf of the person using the Service.

2. What Lisa is — and isn't

Lisa is a voice-based companion application designed to provide conversation, companionship, reminders, and check-ins for people who live alone, and to notify designated caregivers when certain patterns suggest attention may be needed.

Lisa is not a medical device, a medical service, or a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Lisa is not a certified personal emergency response system (PERS) and is not a substitute for emergency services. In any life-threatening emergency, call 911 (or your local emergency number) first.

3. Accounts and eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or serve as the billing party for the Service. The person using Lisa day-to-day (the "Primary User") and the person who subscribes and pays (the "Account Holder") may be different people — for example, an adult child subscribing on behalf of a parent. Where they differ, the Account Holder is responsible for ensuring the Primary User has consented to use of the Service.

4. Subscription, billing, and cancellation

Lisa is offered on a subscription basis at $5.99/month or $60/year, billed in advance. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

If a payment fails, we'll attempt to retry billing and notify you before any change to the Service. Certain safety-related functionality is designed to remain available even during a billing lapse, ahead of full cancellation — details are available on request and will be reflected in our published policies.

5. Acceptable use

6. Data and privacy

Our collection and use of information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, content, and branding, is owned by The Average Tech Company LLC and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms don't grant you any ownership rights in the Service.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of any kind, and our liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited as described in the full legal terms to be finalized during legal review.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or as otherwise described in our policies. You may terminate your account at any time.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll provide notice of material changes before they take effect.

11. Governing law
